Sabrina Carpenter’s younger self ‘could not believe’ Taylor Swift collaboration – Music News

Sabrina Carpenter’s younger self “could not believe it” when she heard the completed version of her collaboration with Taylor Swift.

The Espresso hitmaker became close friends with the pop superstar while serving as the opening act on two legs of The Eras Tour, during which they sang together twice.

Months later, Carpenter was revealed to be the only featured artist on Swift’s new album, The Life of a Showgirl, joining her pal for a duet on the title track.

The 26-year-old admitted to Variety that she knew they had something “special” when they sang together, but she would have never suggested a collaboration herself.

“Ten-year-old me, for so many reasons, could not believe it – to hear our voices together,” she shared. “We definitely realised it was special, but I would have never been like, ‘Hey, bestie, put me on a song.'”

The Taste singer added that the song was particularly meaningful because it shows the resilience and determination needed to be a showgirl.

“She was so gracious to think of me for a song that spoke to our life experiences in such a real, genuine way. It really sums up what so many young women in this industry go through,” she explained.

In The Official Release Party of a Showgirl film, Swift shared that Carpenter recorded her vocals on a day off during their tour stop in Sweden.

Recalling her reaction to her request, the star said, “She was like, ‘Are you kidding? I’m dead. Yes, of course. I’ve been waiting. I thought you’d never ask!'”

The Life of a Showgirl, which closes Swift’s twelfth studio album, concludes with audio from The Eras Tour during one of Carpenter’s surprise appearances with the Shake It Off singer.

In the outro, they thank the fans for “an unforgettable night”, thank each other and say, “That’s our show, we love you so much, good night.”
