Perrie Edwards teared up while discussing the breakdown of her friendship with Jesy Nelson.
The singer became emotional as she reflected on the downfall of a past friendship during an intimate gig on Monday.
The 32-year-old fought back tears as she told the audience how difficult it had been to navigate the end of the bond, widely believed to be with her former Little Mix bandmate Jesy.
“I wrote this next song because I feel like we talk about heartbreak a lot in music, in songs, in life and it’s always romantically and we seem to forget that losing a friend or falling out with a friend or not having them in your life anymore, it’s f**king hard,” she said.
Although she did not mention Jesy by name, Perrie acknowledged how closely she and the unnamed friend’s lives had once been intertwined.
“How do I navigate a life where that person has been there for years,” she shared. “They’ve seen me cry, they’ve seen my absolute demons, they’ve seen everything and then poof they are gone and it’s like okay.”
“So I think I really struggled to navigate it and…’, she added, appearing to hold back tears.
Her emotional words prompted fans to call out, “We love you!”
“Okay wait, don’t make me cry because my vocal cords are going to go funny and then I’m not going to sound good,” she told her fans. “Okay, we’re good. Okay, this next song is called Same Place Different View.”
The singer previously revealed that the recently released song was inspired by the collapse of her friendship with Jesy during an appearance on Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place podcast.
Jesy, 34, left Little Mix in December 2020 and later drifted apart from former bandmates Perrie, Jade Thirlwall, and Leigh-Anne Pinnock. In May 2022, the group announced an indefinite hiatus, with all members pursuing solo careers.
