Djo’s End of Beginning finally claims UK’s Official Number 1 single – Music News

Showing itself to be quite the slow burner (or Djo burner?), Djo’s End of Beginning is finally crowned the UK’s Official Number 1 single – two years after making its chart debut.

Djo, the musical moniker of Stranger Things actor Joe Keery, originally released End of Beginning back in 2022, with the enduring track experiencing regular UK chart surges ever since, toppling RAYE this week to clinch the top spot at long last.

The single made its UK Top 100 debut in February 2024 as it sparked a viral social media trend, quickly climbing to a Number 4 peak the following month. Spending a total of 28 weeks inside the Top 100, the song’s this time bolstered by the series finale of Stranger Things, while remaining a social media staple.

End of Beginning also enjoys its biggest week on streaming here in the UK, racking up 5.4 million combined streams this week, and tops the Official Independent Singles Chart.

Another track relishing in its chart resurgence this week is Zara Larsson’s Lush Life. The Swedish export’s 2016 single’s reaching a whole new generation with its viral dance trend, up one to Number 8. Lush Life previously peaked at Number 3 back in March 2016 and has spent a total of 64 weeks inside the Top 100 since its release.

They can’t catch their breath! HAVEN. ft. Kaitlin Aragon clinch a new peak with I Run, sprinting one to Number 9.

Congratulations go to singer, songwriter and social media star James Marriott, who earns his first-ever Official Top 40 single with California Rain (22).

California Rain is the best-selling single of the week on CD, also making the Official Singles Sales Chart (2), Official Singles Downloads Chart (5) and Official Independent Singles Chart (6). On his success, James tells Official Charts: “The rain won’t stop me now.” Strong.

Haven’t you heard they’re the internet girls? Global girl group KATSEYE celebrate a personal best with the riotous Internet Girl (24). The band – Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Manon Bannerman, Megan Skiendiel, Sophia Laforteza and Yoonchae Jeung – previously charted with 2015’s Gnarly and Gabriela.

PinkPantheress’s Stateside reaches new heights, thanks in part to its remix featuring Zara Larsson. The track jumps five to Number 35 this week.

Stranger Things turns the Official Singles Chart Upside Down – the numbers behind Netflix hits
Well, Stranger Things season five has officially ended, and what a ride it was. Tears were shed, battles were fought, wars were won. But none of these dramatic moments would have been as poignant as they were without the powerful ‘80s soundtrack, and a boatload of those hits appear in this week’s Official Singles Chart Top 40.

Prince’s iconic Purple Rain enjoys the biggest surge, originally debuting in 1984, the track returns to the UK Top 40 for the first time since Prince’s passing a decade ago at Number 12.

Now synonymous with the show, Kate Bush’s record-breaking Running Up That Hill is on the ascent, jumping two (14).

As it reaches new fans via social media, The Police’s former 1983 Number 1 Every Breath You Take vaults 41 (17). It marks the track’s highest UK chart placing in 43 years.

Fleetwood Mac’s Landslide makes its Official Singles Chart debut an unbelievable 41 years after its initial release. The song, housed on the group’s eponymous 1975 album, lands at Number 20 this week.

Turning the Singles Chart Upside Down, Diana Ross’s disco classic returns to the Top 40 for the first time in 46 years, skyrocketing 60 spots (26).

It’s running just as fast as it can! Tiffany’s euphoric 1988 chart-topper I Think We’re Alone Now reaps the rewards as it soundtracks one of the show’s most memorable scenes with character Holly Wheeler. The ‘80s pop staple jumps two to earn its highest position in 38 years (27).

Speaking exclusively to Official Charts, Tiffany says:

“Thank you so much. I love you all in the UK to the bottom of my heart. I can’t wait to spend 2026 with you. Thank you for all the support in making this song reach the Official Singles Chart again. My love always, let’s rock 2026 together!”

In the week marking the 10th anniversary of his death, David Bowie’s Heroes rebounds to its highest position in 14 years, at Number 34 this week with 172% week-on-week uplift. Heroes, which made its Singles Chart debut in 1977, peaked at Number 12 following the legend’s death in 2016.

And finally, The Clash’s former Number 1 Should I Stay Or Should I Go opts for the former, up two to break the Top 40 for the first time in 35 years (40). The song topped the chart in March 1991, spending two consecutive weeks at the summit.
