The celebrations kick off with 1Xtra’s Throwback Weekender, which will run from Friday 3 to Sunday 5 October and will see special guests join across the network.
On Friday, Craig David will join Nadia Jae to co-host Radio 1Xtra Breakfast (7am-10am), Sneakbo will co-host with Remi Burgz (4pm-7pm) and Flukes from Crazy Cousinz will join Jeremiah Asiamah on 1Xtra’s Rave Show (7pm-9pm).
Saturday will see Lethal Bizzle join Nick Bright to co-host a special Black History Month special on the network (10am-1pm) discussing the moments that shaped him and his music. Also on 1Xtra, Tinie Tempah will host a special show to mark 15 years since the release of his debut album (9pm-11pm).
On Sunday, Trevor Nelson will host a special Black History Mixtape, focusing on anthems for empowerment and protest (11am-1pm), Victony will join Eddie Kadi on The Official UK Afrobeats Chart Show to reveal his top 10 Nigerian tunes (3pm-4pm), Rampage will celebrate dancehall, funky house and R&B with special guests Omar, Kyla, DJ Paleface, Stush, MC Versatile, Funky Dee, Meleka and Alizae (4pm-7pm) and AJ Odudu will join Richie Brave on 1Xtra Talks (9pm-10pm)
To further celebrate the success and excellence of Black music and culture, 1Xtra will tell the stories of Black music pioneers and cultural trailblazers by championing ‘Living Legends’ on the network, with shows set to be joined by special guests throughout the month.
DJ Day Day (Monday to Friday,10am-1pm) and Kaylee Golding (Monday to Friday, 1pm-4pm) will also be joined by artists throughout October for a special feature ‘Your Hero’s Hero’ where guests will discuss the individuals who inspired and shaped them and their work.
