Todd Snider cancels tour after brutal assault and arrest – Music News

Todd Snider has cancelled his tour.

Just two stops into a 13-city tour, the singer-songwriter was allegedly the victim of a violent assault in Salt Lake City, and then was himself arrested at a Utah hospital.

The Americana musician pulled the plug on his High Lonesome and Then Some tour after he “sustained severe injuries as the victim of a violent assault outside of his hotel” in Salt Lake City, according to a statement by his team.

Salt Lake City police confirmed that they’re investigating “an alleged assault of a 59-year-old male at the Commonwealth Room” on Saturday, where Snider was set to perform.

Snider was treated at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City and discharged, allegedly against his will, on Sunday.

The performer initially left the hospital, but then came back to “air grievances”, police stated. He was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct, trespassing and making a violent threat.

“He returned to the hospital and made threats that he was going to assault members of the staff,” Salt Lake City police Detective Michael Ruff told NBC News.

“By this point, he had been treated and released.”

Snider has been a fixture on the Americana, alt-country and folk scene since the release of his debut album, Songs for the Daily Planet in 1994.
