The Self-Dissecting Worlds of Alex Eckman-Lawn’s Paper Collages » Design You Trust — Design Daily Since 2007

Alex Eckman-Lawn is a Philadelphia-born artist and illustrator celebrated for his intricate, multi-layered paper collages and dynamic illustration work.

A graduate of the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Eckman-Lawn combines his skill in digital painting with a fascination for anatomical drawings, medical texts, and the visual culture of comics and video games. His work often takes the form of hand-cut collages, where each meticulously spaced layer creates a sense of depth and draws viewers beneath the surface, inviting them to explore evocative metaphors of the human body, emotional landscapes, and psychological vulnerability.

Inspired in part by his experience with spinal surgery and recovery as a child, Alex uses his own body and sense of mortality as a lens for exploring control, fear, and transformation in his art. He has contributed art to comic books, album covers, T-shirts, and gallery exhibitions worldwide, with recent solo shows like “BODY” further exploring themes of resilience, uncertainty, and the search for self within inner chaos.
