Taylor Swift’s latest album holds onto the top album spot in its second week, despite a 92% sales drop to 338,000.
Swifties aren’t surprised that their superstar idol Taylor Swift has held onto the top spot on the Billboard 200 album chart with The Life of a Showgirl’s second week. That said, it’s a tremendous feat—especially considering sales of the album have dropped by 92%. But it still sold an impressive 338,000 equivalent album units in its second week out.
And it’s only a week since Taylor broke multiple records in the album’s first week, securing the most units sold with over 4 million, including pre-orders. Despite a significant drop-off in its second week, Showgirl still clocked in with the fifth best-week for any album this year, according to Luminate data. The only albums with more than 338,000 units in a single frame so far this year were first-week numbers for Morgan Wallen (493,000), The Weeknd (490,000), Sabrina Carpenter (366,000), and Swift’s own first week for Showgirl.
According to Billboard, 101,000 of Swift’s 338,000 in Week 2 were pure album sales. That’s still a number that few albums these days can ever hope to reach in a single week.
Unsurprisingly, streaming maintained a strong presence in Swift’s second week, with 307.59 million on-demand streams—down from the first week by 55%. That accounted for 236,000 SEA (streaming equivalent album) units sold.
Of course, Swift has little competition when she decides to put out an album. No other musician wants to put their album in the superstar’s shadow, and thus there were no new entries in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 for the week ending October 10.
Morgan Wallen’s I’m the Problem spent 12 nonconsecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard 200 this year, a feat that Swift will undoubtedly try to reach in the months that follow. With few pop heavy-hitters scheduled to release an album between now and the end of the year, it appears that there won’t be much standing in Swift’s way as she attempts to dominate the charts throughout the rest of 2025.
