Kendrick Lamar Eclipses Drake With Highest-Certified Rap Song Ever

Kendrick Lamar has notched another win over his bitter rival Drake, more than a year after emerging victorious in their epic rap battle.

While the 6 God has long been hip-hop’s commercial king, it’s Kendrick who has the highest-certified rap song in history thanks to his “Goosebumps” collaboration with Travis Scott.

The 2016 hit, taken from La Flame’s Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight, is officially 17x platinum, the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) announced on Friday (October 3). That means it has sold at least 17 million units in the U.S. alone.

“Goosebumps” surpasses the previous record-holder, “God’s Plan” by Drake, which is 16x platinum.

Drake hasn’t been completely stripped of his bragging rights, though. The OVO Sound boss still has 10 singles that have been certified diamond or higher — a record he shares with Post Malone.

These include the aforementioned “God’s Plan,” as well as “Sicko Mode” with Travis Scott (15x platinum), “No Guidance” with Chris Brown (11x platinum), “One Dance” (11x platinum), “Life is Good” with Future (11x platinum) and “Best I Ever Had” (10x platinum).

Meanwhile, “Goosebumps” is Kendrick Lamar’s first diamond song and Travis Scott’s second following “Sicko Mode.”

K. Dot is close to adding to his collection of diamond plaques, with “Fuckin’ Problems” with A$AP Rocky (8x platinum) and “HUMBLE.” (7x platinum) both nearing the 10 million sales mark.

It’s worth noting that RIAA plaques are only awarded after an artist (or their label) makes a request and their application is proved, meaning it’s possible that an album or song has already surpassed 10 million sales domestically without being officially certified.
